One person was feared dead while two people were wounded during the ward congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State on Monday.

He added that two people were wounded during the confusion.  He, however said  the two injured victims had been taken to a hospital and were receiving treatment.

Okasanmi who was not sure where the incident happened, however stated  that the police had arrested seven suspects in connection with the incident.

“In one of the hot spots in Ilorin, one person had been confirmed dead following a misunderstanding. Two people who were also shot had been taken to hospital and were receiving treatment.  Seven people had been arrested in connection with the disturbance.”

But our correspondent gathered the congress turned violent in Sango area of Ilorin when a police man allegedly shot into the air to control rowdy crowd.

It was said that his  gun, an AK-47 rifle,  surprisingly and suddenly fell off his hands to the ground.

Our correspondent gathered that  one of a group of suspected hoodlums picked up the gun. The suspected hoodlum and his gang members were said to have refused to release the gun to the police.

It was learnt that in the process to retrieved the gun from them, another police man was said to have shot at the suspected hoodlum in possession of the gun.

The situation was said to have consequently degenerated into pandemonium as some hoodlums later made bonfire along the area and obstructed traffic flow.

Okasanmi except for the incident in the ward at Ilorin, the exercise was generally peaceful and orderly across the state.

Also the  state Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Security and  Civil Defense Corps,  Mr. Olanrewaju Kadiri  in  a telephone interview with our correspondent  said the  the corps deployed no fewer than 2,500 officials for the exercise.

A  PDP Chieftain in the state and a delegate to the National Conference representing North Central, Mr. John Dara, said the large turnout of party members was genuine.

Also another delegate to the  national conference  and also a PDP chieftain, Senator Gbemi Saraki and  another  PDP chieftain, who  conducted the exercise at Oke Ogun ward in Ilorin, Mr.  Dele Belgore  all  said the exercise was successful.
