Date: 2014-05-03

The Senate President, Senator David Mark, has described the death of the Second Republic governor of old Kwara State, Alhaji Adamu Attah, as the exit of a compassionate politician.

This was contained in a statement issued by Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in Abuja, on Friday.

The statement described him as politician, who lived his life for the people and dedicated his time to providing the basic needs of the people such as hospitals, roads, schools, among others.

"His politics was people-oriented. He identified the basic needs of the people and worked assiduously to provide those simple needs of life," it said.

"As politicians of today, we have a lot to learn from the humble political lifestyle of Alhaji Attah, who served the people with the fear of God," it stated.

Also, Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has condoled with the governments and people of Kwara and Kogi states on the death of Attah.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mrs Olufunmilayo Wakama, the governor described the death of  Attah as a loss  not only to Kwara and Kogi states, but also the country as a whole.

"The death of Alhaji Attah is lamentable at a time such as this."

In the same vein, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Honorable Razak Atunwa, has described Attah's death as a great loss, not only to Kogi and Kwara states, but to Nigeria as a whole.

Atunwa, in a statement by his Media Assistant, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Sanni, described the ex-governor of the state as a great patriot, democrat, bureaucrat and devout Muslim, who had contributed significantly towards the socio-economic transformation of not only the old Kwara State, but to the nation as a whole.

He commiserated with the governments and people of Kogi and Kwara states, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland and Attah's family over the death of the ex-governor and enjoined Nigerians to immortalise his sterling qualities to make Nigeria a worthy place to live in.
