Political revolution imminent, says former Kwara NBA boss

Date: 2012-01-25

The immediate past chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kwara state branch, Barrister Salman Jowondo, has noted that President Goodluck Jonathan's administration will encounter more problems with Nigerians if the government continues to impose unacceptable policies on the citizens. He stated this in an interview with our correspondent in Ilorin while baring his mind on the state of the nation and advised President Goodluck Jonathan to desist from such policies. According to Jowondo, the President's refusal to rule according to the will and wishes of the people, could lead to political revolution in the country. "The last protest against the removal of oil subsidy had shown that Nigerians should not be taken for granted. It has gone beyond just protest against subsidy removal to good governance. People want good governance since democracy is about good governance. Without good government, democracy is worse than military government", he said. He explained that protests in Nigeria recently showed that government could not be fooling the citizens, but fooling themselves. He also frowned at the manner in which about N25 billion was approved for purportedly aiding research in the Presidency and the use of government property for the first lady's NGO, noting that all these amounted to high cost of governance which must be removed.
