2015: IEDPU Decries Breakdown Of Law, Order

Date: 2014-07-03

Ahead of the 2015 elections, the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has expressed concern over the incessant break down of law and order in some parts of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The national president of the Union, Alh. AbdulHamid Adi, made the feeling of the union known during a security advocacy visit to the General Manager of the Kwara state Printing and Publishing Corporation, publishers of The Herald Newspapers, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Adebayo.

As part of measures to curtail the spread of violence to other parts of the metropolis, Adi said the union will hold a security summit on August 9 to sensitize the people of the state on the need to remain peaceful at all times.

Adi observed that "Ilorin is developing every day; people are coming into the town almost on a daily basis and in as much as we cannot determine the type of people coming in there is need for us to be security conscious.

We hear and see the damage violence has caused in other states of the federation and the recent unrest experienced in some parts of the metropolis is a wakeup call to everyone. We must nip in the bud these unrests and ensure that there is no repeat of such because this is a state of harmony and we intend to keep it so.

"We have met with the Emir and the Baloguns, we have met with the state governor and other stakeholders on the need to sensitize the general public on the need to live in peace and the response we got has been very encouraging. We have therefore, decided to visit all the media houses in the state."

He announced the union's plan to organize a prayer session for peace in Nigeria and Ilorin in particular, saying that prayers will be observed both in mosques and churches throughout the state.

"Thank God we are in the Ramadan season, we implore imams and preachers to sensitize their audience on the need to be security conscious and also live in peace with their neighbours," he stated.

In his remark, the General Manger of the corporation, Alh. AbdulRazaq Adebayo expressed his corporation's support for the planned security summit, describing it as a stitch in time.
