Police arrest 5 over Ilorin kidnappers' den

Date: 2014-07-03

The Kwara State Police Command yesterday said it has arrested five suspects in connection with the kidnappers' den discovered in Ilorin, the state capital. The state's Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ambrose Aisabo, who disclosed this in a chat with Daily Trust, said investigation is still ongoing.

The uncompleted building used by people who allegedly deal in human parts was discovered along Airport/Eyenkorin road near NASFAT Village, a suburb of Ilorin. The commissioner, who briefed newsmen on Monday on the discovery, said it was made possible through "a highly potent" intelligence from members of the public.

The building believed to be owned by an 85-year old woman was seen littered with at least three decomposed headless bodies, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) caps, female underwear and sandals.

The commissioner described the discovery as "an unfortunate development which exposed the desperation and greed of people to make money by hook or crook".

Meanwhile, the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has blamed the development on the government, accusing it of failing to provide security in the state.

The PDP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Chief Rex Olawoye, urged the police to investigate the situation with a view to bringing the suspected ritualists to books.

The APC also urged the police to thoroughly probe the recently uncovered kidnappers' den along Lagos-Ilorin Expressway, Ilorin, according to a statement by its spokesman, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari.

However, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Prince Tunji Moronfoye has described as laughable the allegation by PDP that the recently discovered criminal hideout was a failure of government.
