Kabba-Egbe-Ilorin Road receives government attention

Date: 2014-07-09

The Deputy Governor, Kogi State, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, has said the state government is committed to ensuring the complete rehabilitation of the Kabba-Egbe-Ilorin Road, whose contract was awarded recently by the Federal Government.

Awoniyi spoke when he inspected ongoing work on the road, recalling that the road was last rehabilitated 18 years ago.

He lauded the remedial work done on the road by the contractor, CGC, to make it passable.

He, however, urged the contractor to speed up the temporary patching of the failed portion of the road while the opening up of the actual work was hastened so as to meet the expected completion date.

The deputy governor said the road was very crucial to the socio economic life of the nation.

He lamented the hardship faced by the people of the area and motorists plying the road.

According to him, this explains why the state government is showing serious concern about the road work.

Awoniyi commended the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan for awarding the road.

The deputy governor commended CGC, the contractor handling the project, on the quality of work so far executed.

He however urged the company to speed up the temporary work of patching the failed portions of the road for as a palliative measure.

The Field Manager of CGC, Mr. Shem Yan, said following the state government’s directive, the company had made serious effort in sand filling the road as a palliative measure.

He said that efforts would also be intensified to meet up with the completion date of the project.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, has warned land speculators and developers to stay clear of a newly acquired parcel of land where the 16km Otokiti-Ganaja bye pass was being constructed.

Wada spoke when he inspected the road construction which he noted had reached a substantial level.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Awoniyi, according to a statement on Monday by Awoniyi’s Chief Press Secretary, Mike Abu, advised buyers to beware of land speculators who might want to sell plots of land along the corridor.

The governor disclosed that the state government had acquired all plots of land on both sides where the road passes, for the development of a new town.

He also advised developers along the road to stop further development.

The governor further noted that the decision to acquire the parcel of land was anchored on the powers vested on the government by virtue of the Land Use Act of 1991.
