Agency demolishes 13 illegal structures in Ilorin

Date: 2012-05-11

Kwara Town Planning Development Authority on Monday,  demolished 13 illegal structures along Agba Dam Estate in Ilorin metropolis.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the authority marked the structures for demolition after an accident in which nine people operating businesses inside illegal structures, died.

The people were crushed by a truck that lost control on the road.

Some of the demolished  structures were beer parlours, welding workshop, furniture shops and salons.

Mr Abdulraheem Adeoti, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Town planning and Development Authority, said the action was carried out to save lives.

"We have to take this action because the safety of  lives is paramount and we would continue to destroy structures built along such places," he said.

He said  it was dangerous to build on sidewalks, adding that the government was determined  to enforce Town Planning regulations to save  lives.
