OPINION - Re: Modibo Kawu vs Bukola Saraki: limits of hubris. By Abdulrazaq Kayode
The pull down attempt on Saraki alleged in this piece is not true of Modibo rather it is a challenge for Bukola Saraki to come out and explain how he runs this state even though he has no monopoly of power.
Drawing from best practices around the world, the utilization of state fund to create an entity and then hand it over to private investors is an old school system. Case studies in the past have shown that private entities have their own shortcomings which is having a negative impact on the public rather than government.
If the main aim of the government is to create a well-being for the public at a cost which is calculated based on welfare approach, then handing Kwara properties to private entities is not the answer. More so, when private entities can provide such services in the first place, then why is the government venturing in the first place.
The most cogent reason for privatization and PPP today is instant gratification of fund which is already provided by the government from the onset. Since the government again knows that efficiency would be its major challenge, then why throwing public fund into such business.
Therefore, I am yet to be convinced why Kwara properties would be sold to private entities after sinking heavy public fund in the first 2 years of operation. Where does the proceed from the sales goes to? That has been the argument of Kawu.
