Kwara to create LCDAs

Date: 2014-08-16

Kwara State is on the verge of creating Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to complement the existing 16 local government areas in the state.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, who gave the indication during a stakeholders' meeting of the All Progressives' Congress (APC) in the state, said a committee would be set up within the next two weeks to look at the creation of LCDAs.

The proposed creation of the LCDAs was hinged on demands by stakeholders of the party in the 16 local governments during the stakeholders' meeting.

Weekly Trust gathered that some stakeholders had enunciated the import of creating the LCDAs which they believe would further spread development to the grassroots.

However, the governor while responding to the demands of stakeholders promised that the committee would be put in place in respect of the issue.

It is recalled that late Governor Mohammed Lawal created new local governments in the twilight of his tenure but they were scrapped as soon as a new administration took over in 2003.

Ahmed, who enumerated the achievements of his administration, noted that the government had performed more under APC platform having joined the league of "progressives." He said the government would fulfill all its campaign promises.
