CBN, Ilorin donates borehole to two communities

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Ilorin branch yesterday donated two boreholes to Osere and Lasoju communities as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility project for their host community.

The branch Controller , CBN Ilorin, Mr Onoriode Monday Olotewo while commissioning the projects in Osere, Ilorin West Local Government Area and Idi Emi in Lasoju , Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, said the gesture was from the donation made from salary of staff of the branch.

According to him, the initiative was conceived by the apex bank headquarters with the sole purpose of giving back to the host community where it is situated. He explained that after domesticating the idea by the branches members of staff have been contributing willingly from their salaries for a period of one year. He said after the donation, a project site is identified through a very rigorous screening to ensure where the team selected is actually in need of such project. He said through the initiative, the CBN Ilorin branch has donated material worth several thousands of naira to inmates at Oke-Kura Prisons, School of Special Needs, Leposarium Lolony and Motherless Homes among others.

He said the gesture came out of the contribution from staff salaries, urging other corporate organizations and wealthy individuals to emulate the CBN by giving back to the community that is in need of help.

In his remark, Chairman, Osere community, Ilorin West Local Government Area, Mr Tayo Awoniyi appreciated the gesture by the staff of CBN Ilorin branch. He called on the state government as well as the local government to emulate the good gesture and desist from making electoral promises that they will never fulfill.

Also speaking, the Magaji of Idiemi in Lasoju, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State said the borehole just commissioned will bring an end to water born diseases that usually afflicts them in the area. He assured that the community will put heads together to protect and maintain the bore hole.
