Private schools owners lament holiday extension
National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Kwara State yesterday observed that the extension of schools' resumption date by one month would alter school calendar and affect coverage of syllabus.
The NAPPS president, Rahaman Adetunji Lateef, who spoke at an emergency meeting of the association, however, said private schools in the state would comply with the October 13 resumption date as directed by the federal government. He appealed to concerned authorities and government to ensure early resumption because of the economic effect on his members.
"All we need is encouragement, information and support to put up all necessary measures to control and contain the outbreak of this disease; not outright extension of resumption date", he said.
The NAPPS president also said the federal government should not have included Kwara State among states where schools are expected to remain shut till October 13, "because there is no outbreak of the disease in the state.
He also commended NAPPS members for their show of courage, saying the association's cooperative society would cushion the effect of the extension of resumption date by distributing food items to them.
