Motorcyclists Are Free to Operate in Kwara, Says Gov
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State yesterday described the activities of commercial motorcyclists in the state as legalised and that if well harmonised could bolster the economy of the state.
Ahmed, while receiving members of Kwara State Joint Motorcycle Riders Association (KWSJMR) who came on a solidarity visit to him, said his government would continue to give all the needed support to the cyclists, but with a caveat that they must organise themselves and operate under the ambit of the relevant laws in the state.
According to him, "Kwara State is an organised state, that is why if you go to some other states, they have outlawed the usage of motorcycles for commercial purposes. But we believe that these set of people have important role to play in Nigeria.
"If you want to move into an entire new area of business, we will lend our support to you. Our government will always make available to you loans for such endeavours."
Responding, Chairman of the association, Alhaji AbdulRaheem Akanbi, praised the government for giving his members conducive atmosphere to operate, just as he promised the governor of their support for his second term bid in office.
