2015: PDP Fixes Nov 29 For Guber Primaries, Govs Endorse Jonathan

Date: 2014-09-18

Ahead of today’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed its presidential primaries for December 6, 2014.

This was disclosed by the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, who also said the party has fixed the primaries for governorship positions for November 29 and National Assembly primaries for November 22.

Metuh disclosed that these were the proposals arrived at by the party ahead of its NEC meeting today which will ratify the dates.

The PDP caucus had met Tuesday at the Presidential Villa ahead of the NEC, while the Board of Trustees of the party (BoT) met last night also at the villa.

The meetings deliberated on the guidelines and procedures for the party primaries.

However, a source in the PDP revealed that the sale of forms for ward congress will commence on October 27 and 28.

The source further revealed that the party has directed all aspiring public servants, government appointed officers and elected officials in the party ahead of 2015 to resign seven days before the commencement of the sale of ward forms.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 14 for the presidential and National Assembly elections while the governorship and state assembly elections will hold on February 28.

In a related development the PDP Governors Forum yesterday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole candidate of the party ahead of the party’s December 6 primaries.

The governors, including some deputies numbering 18, arrived at the decision yesterday ahead of today’s NEC meeting which is very likely to adopt the resolution of the governors.

The governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, a presidential hopeful, was not present at the meeting of the governors. His deputy was, however, at the meeting.

Reading the communique of the governors after a three-hour meeting, the chairman of the forum and governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, urged all PDP faithful to support the gesture which he said should enable the president to become the sole candidate of the party come 2015.
