Group boosts learning with N10m in Kwara

Date: 2014-09-19

The President, Pan African Children Advocacy Watch, Dr. Adetokunbo Ayeni, says the group has devoted over N10m to the development of education in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

According to Ayeni, the non-profit organisation has also provided other support services, including the payment of teachers'salaries in the council.

He spoke on Thursday on the sidelines of the inauguration of a renovated library and computer complex.

He noted that it was imperative to invest in the sector to achieve quality education and societal growth.

According to him, sound education is the elixir for achieving greater heights in life.

Ayeni, who said the group had provided books and computers to Koro Community Primary School and Koro Grammar School in Kor--Ekiti, also criticised parents who pamper their children.

Ayeni said, "To parents, I beg of you, please allow your children to go to school. Encourage them to study at home to complete their homework. To our children in primary and secondary schools, take as many subjects as you can. Do not skip any class. No human being can ever have too much of education."

He also called for the judicious use of education funds in order to provide the right learning environment in schools.

He said, "How can we demonstrate such lack of love for ourselves and our children so much that we do not care to provide them the best education? How can we have public primary schools without computers in one of the most endowed nations on the planet? How can you establish modern educational institutions without potable water?

"Sustainable development occurs from within. Our fate, destiny and respectability as members of the human race rest largely on our achievements and output in our classrooms and laboratories beginning in kindergarten.

"We must inculcate the ethos of hard work and eagerness to learn in our children, the future leaders of this nation. If we are to be great, our future leaders must not see oil or other natural resources the most important assets. The most important asset of a nation is the people."
