Flooding: Residents around Asa river urged to leave area
Residents and owners of houses around Asa river bank in Ilorin, Kwara State, have been warned to vacate the area or face the wrath of the law of the land.
Speaking in Ilorin, the Executive Secretary of Kwara State Town Planning and Development Authority (TPDA), Kuteyi Elijah, who gave the warning, said that the place was prone to flood, adding that it may lead to submerging of those buildings when it rained.
The TPDA boss particularly called on occupants of the buildings that had already been red-marked by the authority to stay away from the river bank in their own interest.
He also said that the idea of erecting buildings on river banks contravened the law of planning and layout.
He advised the people to endeavour to visit the TPDA office before commencing work on any project to ensure that the project conform with what was expected of it as far as regional and urban plannings were concerned.
The secretary also said that the responsibility of the TPDA was to ensure that the city was beautifully planned in accordance with international standard
