OPINION: An Update from the Kwara Restoration Project. By Abdullahi Imam Abdullahi

Date: 2014-09-30

I must thank those of you who got hold of my email address and sent messages to inquire over our month long absence from the media. On behalf of the Kwara Restoration Project, we sincerely thank everyone that sent messages and we extend our gratitude to all the other Kwarans who have kept faith with the Kwara project.

First off, I must inform Kwarans that after the expiration of our ultimatum on the 8th of September, 2014, to the Kwara State Government on the issues that we raised in our last piece "Harmony Holdings Limited: A Monumental Fraud And Cash Cow" one of our prominent members submitted a letter to the commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Kwara state invoking the freedom of information act in order to get answers to some of the posers that we raised in our piece. We sought to know in our August 31, 2014 press release why a holding company with twenty one (21) subsidiaries will declare a profit of a paltry 308 million naira? We reminded Kwarans that the bureau of lands alone (a subsidiary of Harmony Holdings Limited) can comfortably churn out a profit in excess of 500 million Naira annually. Beyond our assumption about the bureau, we later discovered through patriotic Kwarans in the Kwara state civil service that the bureau allegedly had a total revenue of over a billion Naira last year. And the bureau is just one out of the 21 companies.

Our other demands were also in the area of transparency and accountability. We demanded that Harmony Holdings Limited's 2012 and 2013 financial details be published to afford all Kwarans the opportunity to see how their commonwealth is being managed and finally we demanded full disclosure on Harmony Holdings Limited's debt profile, liabilities and its current investments if any.

Fellow Kwarans, so far, the Kwara state government has refused to acknowledge our requests covered under the freedom of information act to release these records. Now, we are left with no choice but to approach the courts to compel the Kwara state government and her agents to release these records for the benefit of all Kwarans. Our lawyers are presently studying relevant provisions of the law to bring the management of Harmony Holdings Limited and the Kwara state government to justice.

I also would like to bring to your attention that the Kwara Restoration Project have forged a working relationship with the Kwara State Civil Service Arm of the Kwara Liberation Group to further bring to light the nefarious ways in which Bukola Saraki, AbdulFatah Ahmed and co are running the affairs of Kwara state. We promise to keep all Kwarans informed of all our activities and we will be sharing with all of you the outcome of our collaboration.

May God bless Kwara State.
