Saraki enjoins new Commissioner of Police to ensure credible election

The Kwara State Governor, Dr Bukola Saraki has called on the Police and other Security agencies in the country to ensure credibility and crisis-free general elections next year. 
 
The Governor specifically enjoined the Nigerian Police to demonstrate zero tolerance for corruption and provide level playing ground to all registered political parties during the conduct of the general elections. 
 
Dr Saraki made the call in Ilorin at the weekend while receiving the new Commissioner of Police (CP) for the State Command, Mr Peter Gana, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House. 
 
The task of conducting credible and crisis-free election the governor said, was the responsibility of all Nigerians, noting that the 2011 general elections would serve as a litmus test in the country. 
 
While praising the contributions of the former CP in the State, Dr Saraki charged the new police boss to make adequate security his watchword. 
 
The police he said should implement all the relevant laws that apply to offenders of electoral guidelines in the forthcoming general elections to serve as deterrent to others, pointing out that it was the responsibility of security agents to ensure that the people abide by the law. 
 
Dr Saraki, who expressed confidence in the ability of the new CP to deliver based on his antecedents, enjoined him to ensure that nobody was above the law as he was coming to the State at a very challenging period when the country’s general election was fast approaching. 
 
He then assured the command of necessary support especially in terms of logistic to enhance its smooth operations in the State
 
Earlier, the new CP, Mr Peter Gana promised to discharge his duties diligently to further consolidate on the prevailing peace in the State
 
Mr Gana praised Governor Saraki for his previous support to the State Police Command and assured that officers and men of the Command would demonstrate discipline and high sense of professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities under his leadership. 
 
He also used the opportunity of the visit to appeal to politicians to enjoin their supporters to desist from violence as the country’s general election approaches.
