Make entrepreneurship, skill training compulsory in schools - Ahmed charges FG
The Federal Government has been called upon to make entrepreneuship training and vocational skill training a compulsory component of tertiary education across the country.
The Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed who made the call in a message to the official commissioning of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Model Skills Acquisition Centre Araromi, in Asa Local Government Area of the state said the bold step would equip youths with necessary mindset and skills to acquire successful entrepreneurship.
Represented by his Deputy Elder Peter Kisira at the occasion, the governor while soliciting greater synergy among all tiers of government in the area of youth employment to avoid duplication and ensure greater impact, commended the Federal Government for the laudable initiative.
The governor, according to a release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Timothy Nathaniel while lamenting the unemployment threatening the society, highlighted the commitment of his administration to empower youths which he said had led to the engagement of over ten thousands youths in the last three years.
He urged private organizations and individuals to establish additional vocational and skill acquisition centres for the benefit of teeming youths and the economic.
In his message to the occasion, the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Chukwuemeka Wogu, who was represented by the Director General, NDE, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed, disclosed that the centres which gulped over one hundred and eighty three million naira have over one hundred and eighty trainees.
He commended the state government for creating the enabling environment for the NDE to operate and discharge its mandate.
