First Lady distributes fertilisers to female farmers in Kwara
First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has distributed fertilisers and other agricultural inputs to women farmers in Kwara State.
The distribution of the items to thousands of women farmers in the state was done at the inauguration of the state chapter of Women for Change Initiative and Development, a non-governmental organisation founded by the First Lady.
The initiative was part of efforts of the First Lady to help hard-working and committed women farmers in the state.
Addressing the mammoth crowd of women who trooped to Ilorin Stadium complex, venue of the rally, Mrs. Jonathan disclosed that the fertiliser distribution was facilitated by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGS, Dr. Precious Onyekachi.
She said: "The fertilisers being distributed today will also help the agricultural outputs of our hard working farmers and boost food sufficiency in Nigeria."
The First Lady expressed delight that many women are now embracing farming, saying women's place is no longer in the kitchen.
She added: "The distribution of these empowerment items today is part of our own efforts to ensure that the women of Kwara State are carried along. I am certain that you will find the items useful and they will go a long way in improving the livelihoods of the beneficiaries and their communities.
