2015 polls: Kwara governor warns against violence

Date: 2014-12-05

As the 2015 election inches nearer, Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has warned politicians against instigating violence during the polls.

He said any politician who foments trouble before, during or after the 2015 election would face the full wrath of law.

Ahmed noted that election was an opportunity for politicians to test their strength and popularity, saying only those who are afraid of defeat would instigate violence.

He spoke while while flagging off the 17 kilometre Arobadi-Megida road in Moro Local Government, saying trouble makers are enemies of progress whom he said must be "shunned by all right thinking people of Kwara State and others who crave good governance."

He said, "Only those who are afraid to test their popularity in free and fair elections and are therefore frightened of defeat, sponsor thuggery and other forms of violence".

He added, "On behalf of the peace-loving people of Kwara State, I hereby serve notice to all those who want to import violence into our state or instigate trouble under any guise. The people of Kwara reject them now and will reject them at the polls in 2015.

"On our part, I want to assure Kwarans that we shall continue to embark on new road projects as being witnessed today in an atmosphere of peace. You should be rest assured that we will shortly implement other projects such as Oke-Oyi-Lanwa, the main Alapa to Malete road, Shao-Jebba and Oloru Township Roads".

Ahmed said that road construction and rehabilitation were key components of his administration's strategic infrastructure development programme under the Shared Prosperity Initiative.

The governor noted that despite the challenging economic times in the country his administration's development initiatives would continue unabated even as he assured the people of Moro of more developmental interventions by government.
