Kwara Spends N2.5b on Transformers

Kwara State Government has installed 725 transformers in various Communities in the state since the inception of the present administration in year 2003, at a cost of over N2.5 Billion.

The state commissioner for Energy, Alhaji Zakari Mohammed, made this disclosure in Ilorin at the weekend. According to the Commissioner  the purchase and installations of transformers by the state government was the highest any government had done for its communities in the country.

The commissioner also said the second phase of the government its electrification project would commence in the next two weeks, involving another 105 communities across the state.

According to him, cheques had been released to contractors for the dropping of forty-nine transformers within Ilorin metropolis to improve electricity supply to residents.

Zaraki stressed further that the state government was working on the provision of sub-stations at Budo Efo, Asa â€"Dam, Gaa Imam, Ago market and stadium complex, while that of Agba-Dam had been completed.

The commissioner said all these installations were aimed at improving investment and the economy of the state

He explained that most of the electrification projects in the state were jointly funded by the government in collaboration with the sixteen Local Government Areas to benefiting communities to take proper care of installations against vandalization.
