OPINION: The Morning After: How the Gang-Up Against Gbemi Saraki Fell Like a Pack of Cards. By Rotimi Atere

Date: 2014-12-22

They all ganged up against this woman. First they refused her the plumb ministerial ticket despite an overwhelming majority of Kwarans then favoured her for the ministerial post, but they all rallied against her and picked a do-nothing Minister who later turned against them all.

Imagine if Oba, Ajadi, Bio, etc had not foolishly ditched Gbemi for Bola Shagaya's puppet then? But because of their selfishness and the promise of money and power, they all fell for Shagaya's antics. Now, Shagaya has shown them how not to be blind to ambition, how not to dig deep against your perceived enemy.

Imagine if they all had supported this innocent, hard-working woman for the ministerial post. Would Kwara have been this 'silent'? Wouldn't the Kwara State government have been smelling their 'yansh' by now? Would she have ever used Federal might against her own party men just like the minister did during the 1st primaries? Would she have tear-gassed her own party members like Shagaya and her puppet minister allegedly did?

Would Gbemi Saraki have contested for guber having been appointed the minister? The answer, I swear by my honour, is a NO! Wouldn't either Dele or Oba have become the guber candidate by now if they both had not ganged up against her ministerial choice? Imagine how many votes either Dele or Oba and even Ajadi would have been able to garner if Gbemi was not in that race. But for their hatred, they dug their own grave thinking they were digging the grave of the enemy! But in their blind hatred for the name 'GRS', they all forgot their thinking caps at home. Now, they will all live to suffer for it. What a pity!

Today, Gbemi Saraki has proven to be the true daughter of her father. She stood her ground during the nocturnal nomination of Minister Abu and also stood her ground against imposition and all that. To say the least, her outing at the primary was gallant, though she did not win, but all those in the know, including even her greatest critics would have told you she would have won the 1st botched primary. It is even more gallant that she accepted defeat and moved on with her life by even donating a million to the victims of Bode-Saadu fire disaster! It was when they realised that she would win that they cancelled that election.

By now, the gutless men must have realized how 'vegetative' they are in the feet of this gallant woman. By now, even Shagaya has seen how much Gbemi Saraki is worth politically. She will regret the day she parted with her, the day she scorned her. She would wish she never fought GRS in her life.

They did not want a woman, they did not want another Saraki, now they have gotten a disaster! They must all live with it. It is their cross, they must all be ready to carry it!

Unfortunately, it is too late for them all...2019 on my mind!
