Date: 2015-03-08

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS),Joint Campus Committee, Kwara State chapter and Students’ Union Government(SUG),College of Education, Ilorin have denied insinuations in some quarters that the state government instructed the management of the college to increase school fees to generate fund for campaign.

The two associations in a separate statements issued in Ilorin at the weekend said there was no time students of the institution accused the management of increasing school fees on the order of the state government to generate fund for political campaigns.

It would be recalled that students of the College of Education, Ilorin went on rampage over increment of course form fees of N4,500 on Wednesday.

The NANS President, Comrade Ibrahim Abdulrasak Jeje, in a statement signed stated that the leadership of the association, Kwara state, supported that school fees must be paid by students in every institution.

The union however pleaded with the management for the harassment received from students who are yet to pay their school fees.

“The information that the state government instructed the management of the College to increase school fees to generate money for campaign is a blatant lie. We therefore, urge anyone involved in spreading this information to stop playing politics with our education’, Jeje said.

The NANS President who appealed with the students of College of Education to remain calm and prepare for their remaining examinations, said the association appreciate the parental role played by the College under the leadership of Dr. Isiaka Saka Opobiyi.

The Student Union Government of the College, in a statement by its President, Sulyman Abdulrahman Olaitan and its General Secretary, Babatunde Jamiu Muhammed also pleaded with the management of the College to allow students who had paid their school fees to sit for the first semester examination.

They also urged students to shun any act of hooliganism, violence and conduct themselves morally throughout their stay in the school.
