Kwara Labour Party Gubernatorial candidate commends CJN
The Gubernatorial Candidate of Labour Party (LP) in Kwara State, North Central Nigeria, Dr. Mike Omotosho has commended the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed for cautioning magistrates and other judicial officers against unnecessary affiliations with the political class.
Dr. Omotosho made the commendation in a statement issued in Ilorin, the State Capital, saying that such warning was important particularly during this election period due to the excesses of some politicians who might want to use judicial officers or magistrates as instruments to remove or intimidate their opponents.
According to him, "the judiciary which is the last hope of the common man must be seen as not only independent, but upright and unbais".
The gubernatorial candidate added that the Court must look into all cases before it without fear or favor to maintain its professionalism, especially electoral matters so as not to truncate the nascent democracy.
Dr. Omotosho added that "If Nigerian judiciary and magistrates follow religiously their code of conduct and the nation's constitution, most of the country's problems on electoral matters would be resolve amicably".
He expressed confidence with the new leadership on the judiciary in Nigeria, under the leadership of Justice Mohammed as well as his predecessor, Justice Mariam Aloma Muktar, charging it to sustain the tempo.
