Local govt workers task Jonathan on excess crude funds
The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kwara State yesterday called on President Goodluck Jonathan to settle the outstanding excess crude oil funds accruable to 16 local councils in the state before May 29, 2015.
The association also refuted claim that the state government was deducting statutory allocations that are due to local governments.
The state's ALGON chairman, Barrister Amodu Okandeji and his deputy, Alhaji Babatunde Salami, made the call at an interactive session with members of the Press Week committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The association noted that since the council chairmen assumed office over a year ago, they had not received a dime from the excess crude account.
"Since our inception in office in the last one and half year ago, we have never received a Kobo from the excess crude account. Every quarter, local governments are expected to receive funds from excess crude account, but since we came into office, we have not received a penny. We, the 744 local governments in Nigeria want the federal government to look into this before its exit", Salami said.
Okandeji, who is the chairman of Ilorin-East Local Government Area stressed that the report on the exploitation of local governments are not true.
