Peaceful polls: 'E' Division Kulende parleys residential associations

The Divisional Police Officer of 'E' Division Kulende has enjoined the residents of Sango to see the forthcoming elections not as do or die affair rather as an opportunity to contribute their quota to the country's fledging democracy.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Nssika made this call when he held an interactive session with the conglomeration of both residential associations and landlord association in the community.

He said "I can attest to the peaceful co-existence in the community unlike other areas where break down of law and order is a re-occurring decimal.

He enjoined residents to troop out in an orderly manner on the election day, cast their votes and return home peaceful, he warned those who planned to foment trouble to have a change of mind, adding that no form of protest, road blockage or illegal movement will be condoned.

"We will not hesitate to bring the full wrath of the law to bear on trouble makers before, during and after the elections, my men are ready to make sure the people of Sango sleep with both eyes closed".

Nssika while commending the almost zero robbery incidence in the community, however advised the community to put in place night watchmen who would complement the Police, "the police need the community to partner it to function optimally, we are partners in progress, I'll enjoin the community to set up night watchmen which the police will help to train and also assist with logistics where need be. He however promised to be always accessible and available should anybody have an issue to discuss with him or they intend to pass security information to the police force.

Alhaji Abdulrazaq Adebayo, the General Manager of The Herald newspapers, who spoke at the meeting thanked the Divisional Police Officer for finding it worthy to come in person to liaise with the residents of the community towards peaceful co-existence.

"To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time in the history of this community that a senior police officer will think it worthy of creating this kind of a relationship with residents, I'm imploring other Divisions and security agencies to take a cue from this initiative.

p>"I'm promising you sir, the community's unalloyed support for you and your men, towards making sure the community is well policed," he concluded.

Also speaking, the chairman of the landlord association, Hon. Ola urged for continued cordial relationship between the police and the community. He also appealed to residents of the community to be vigilant, security conscious and reports suspicious movements of people.
