Elderly Voters Face Difficulty With Fingerprints

Date: 2015-03-31

Elderly voters in some parts of Kwara State experienced difficulty during the accreditation exercise as their fingerprints could not be captured.

The affected voters, aged 80 to 90 had problem with identifying their finger prints.

This prompted INEC officials to resort to using the identification name and number after several attempts to wash and clean their hands yielded no results.

An observer for Ilorin west, Mr. Alawiye Teki noted that the system is slow but pointed out that the exercise was peaceful.

However, the accreditation and the voting exercise was peaceful and orderly despite the large presence of security personnel. The situation was not different at Sosoki, Alapa, Oja-Iya, Ga Lamba, and Efue communities all in Asa LG.

At Kwara North, the state Deputy Governor Elder Peter Kishira lauded the use of the card reader though it was gathered that the machine did not work in some polling units as the INEC officials resorted to manual accreditation.
