Nigerian Journalists have again been charged to be objective, fair and unbiased in their reportage during the electioneering period.

The Kwara state governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Simeon Ajibola gave the charge on Saturday when the 2015 Press Week Committee of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kwara state Council  paid him a courtesy visit in his campaign office.

Senator Ajibola urged Journalists to keep to the ethics of the profession by mirroring the reality of the society not only to promot harmonious and peaceful coexistence in the society, but to promote economic development of the nation.

According to him, there can only be progress and development where there is peace, hence the need for journalists to intensify their efforts on development journalism.

The PDP Governorship candidate appealed to journalists to give equal representation and provide objective reports of the activities of the political parties without prejudice before, during and after the elections.

Senator Ajibola noted that the outcome of the Presidential and National Assembly elections would not affect Saturday's governorship and House of Assembly polls in the state, attributing the failure of the party to secure at least a seat at the National Assembly, to people's desire for change at the national level.

Senator Ajibola urged members of the party not to shift blames on the leadership of the party, stressing the need for voters to participate in accreditation in order to curb malpractice.

He pledged his support to all programmes of the Press Week Committee, particularly the Pen School Project.

Responding, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Abiodun Abdulkareem, represented by the Assistant Secretary, Mallam Mustapha Abubakar appreciated the support of  Senator Ajibola and wished him success as he strived to become the next governor of the state.
