Why we have voters apathy in Kwara - Saraki

Date: 2015-04-12

The leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki has blamed voter apathy in some of the polling units in the state on the obvious fact and general belief that APC had already won the elections as recorded in March 28 polls.

Saraki stated shortly after casting his accreditation at Ode-Opobiyi polling unit, Agbaji quarters, Ilorin.

He said he was not surprise with the voter apathy because they believed APC would win the land slide victory as recorded in March 28 polls.

"Though, we have started sensitizing and encouraging our people come out because it was not down yet".

He expressed confidence that APC would carry the day.

He commended the voters of Ilorin and the state at large for conducting themselves peacefully and orderly during the yesterday's elections.

The turn out of voters was however impressed at Ode-Saura 008 polling unit, Agbaji quarters, Ilorin where the Kwara State Commissioner for Energy, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi and Director General of Kwara State Bureau of Lands, Alhaji Yusuf Babatunde Abdulwahab casted their votes.

Abdullahi, who praised the turn out of electorate in his polling unit, said it shows that they were politically matured and experienced.

While commending INEC for smooth conduct of the exercise which he said had brought sanity in the country's electoral system, the Commissioner urged APC supporters to be magnanimous in the celebration of the party's victory.

The DG land said he was very satisfied with large turn out of voters in his polling unit.

Abdulwahab said he was very positive that APC would carry the day in the governorship and state Assembly elections in Kwara State as witnessed in March 28 polls.

He urged electorate and INEC officers to be peaceful in their conduct, noting that the country could only witness the expected change in a peaceful atmosphere.

He expressed hope that funding among other challenges facing the Kwara State government would be a thing of the past with the emergence of APC at the central government.

Also speaking after casting his vote, Chief of Staff to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, Alhaji Toyin Sanusi commended INEC for conducting a credible election.

He said Nigeria was now getting it right with the peaceful conduct of the electorate and process put in place by INEC.

Alhaji Sanusi who expressed optimism that the APC governorship candidate would emerge victorious along with other state assembly candidates appealed for caution while celebrating the victory by the electorate.

He also commended the media for assisting in enthroning genuine democracy in the country.
