Omotosho blames defeat on party agents

Date: 2015-04-15

Governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Kwara State, in the just concluded election, Dr Mike Omotosho, has blamed his defeat in the election  on the attitude of party agents contracted by his party for the poll.

Dr Omotosho, who said the party agents were absent at most of the polling units, added that the allotted number of votes declared for his party were not a true reflection of its strength and acceptance.

The LP governorship candidate, however, had congratulated the winner of the governorship election in the state, the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, even as he implored him to “raise the standard and build a Kwara State that will be worth leaving as a legacy for our future generations in the fear of God and service to humanity with dignity and distinction.

“Sadly, the medium through which we contracted party agents to monitor the polls was compromised just before the election which led to the absence of our agents at most of the polling units. Consequently, we would like our people to know that the allotted number of votes is not a true reflection of our strength and acceptance.

“In spite of being maligned and insulted that we had stepped down, we kept our head high and ran the race to the very end. We did not and still donot want to have a mandate that was induced with temporary gain because we believe in a democracy that is freely sort and freely given.

“We can proudly raise our heads and say we never bought a single vote in this election. Every vote casted for us despite the challenges will be cherished as evidence of liberated minds.

“Fellow Kwarans, On behalf of the Labour Party, I want to thank everyone who has contributed in every way, our campaign team, supporters and especially my immediate family who gladly bore the brunt of this exercise. Thank you very much and may God bless our state,” he said.
