Kwara House Passes Environmental Sanitation Bill Into Law
Gov. Abdulfatah AhmedA bill for a law to amend the Environmental Sanitation Law Cap E4 of the Kwara State and for related matters has been passed into law by the State House of Assembly.
This followed the adoption at the State House of Assembly Ilorin of the Report of the House Committee on Energy, Works and Transport presented by its Chairman and Member representing Omupo Constituency Hon. Mashood Bakare to the House.
The amended law seeks to regulate indiscriminate digging or erection of bumps on roads in the State.
Under the newly amended Environmental Sanitation Law, anybody wanting to erect speed breaker would seek permission from the concern authority as well as give legal backing to erection of regulated speed breakers on roads in the State.
It also spelt out sanctions for violators as well as acceptable distance within which to erect speed breaker on the road.
The Chairman of the Committee while presenting the report had said that all the Stakeholders invited agreed to the desirability of the amended law as well as recalled a motion by the House titled "Indiscriminate Construction of Bumps and Speed Breakers on Roads in Kwara State," which gives effect to the amendment.
The Deputy Speaker Prof. Mohammed Gana Yisa who presided over the sitting then directed the Clerk to the House Mr. Ayotunde Oyeniyi to prepare a clean copy for the Governor's assent.
The House also considered the report on alteration of the Master Plan of Ultra Modern Market Adewole Ilorin raised by a Member representing Ilorin Central Constituency Hajia Segilola Abdul Kadir and urged the State Ministry of Commerce and Co-operatives to continue to monitor the activities of the Developer in the market to ensure total compliance with the Master Plan including the fence of the market and road setback.
