Kwara PDP advices Buhari to study National Conference Report

Date: 2015-05-30

The spokesman of Kwara PDP, Chief Rex Olawoye, said the issue of local government autonomy and relocation of Military High Command required the endorsement of the National Assembly and Security Council, even during military regime.

He also advised the president to study the report of the National Conference and avail himself of it as vital source of information for guidance on various challenges confronting the nation.

Olawoye lauded the president’s zero tolerance for corruption and the efforts designed to tackle the country’s challenges.

A constitutional lawyer, Mr Deji Gbadeyan, also faulted the president on the planned relocation of the Military High Command from Abuja to Maiduguri.

Gbadeyan urged the president to consult the National Assembly on critical national issues in order to prevent confrontation.

In Abeokuta, the Ogun capital, a cross section of Nigerians also expressed divergent views on the inaugural speech of the new president.

Chief Pegba Otemolu, the South West Zonal Secretary of Ogun PDP, said that the speech was well crafted and inspirational.

The PDP stalwart also said that the president should look into the recommendations of the confab and implement them.

"There are some recommendations there that would be very useful to him because those that participated in the confab were nonpartisan and they know what is good for Nigeria.

"This is when people would now know that he's not being pushed here and there by those barometric politicians," he said.

A lawyer, Mutiu Agboke, said the inauguration was historic as Nigerians had been clamouring for "a change of any kind.’’

His speech, he said, showed that he would not interfere with other arms of government.

"It shows that he has the courage of someone who knows what he's coming to do.

"This means that the judiciary would be left to write its judgment regardless of whose ox is gored.

"We have situations where somebody was tried and found guilty but somebody in government tried to tinker with the judgement.
`` All this would be a thing of the past," Agboke said.

Hon. Akinpelu Aina, a member of the Ogun House of Assembly, said the inauguration of Buhari had raised the hope that Nigeria could still achieve greatness.

"Nigeria is a great country and I believe the people have decided.

`` I trust Buhari that the economy of the country will be respected all over the world. People should just give the new administration time to fix things,’’ he said.

The lawmaker urged the president to tackle corruption, unemployment and power supply, saying that crime rate in the country would reduce if these problems were solved.

Aina commended Buhari for announcing in his inaugural speech the decision to relocate the military command centre from Abuja to Maiduguri to further tackle the Boko Haram insurgency.

This, he said, indicated commitment to fight terrorism and ensure the rescue of the Chibok girls who were abducted from their school last year.
