Kwara traditional rulers hail election of Saraki as Senate President

Date: 2015-06-10

Some traditional rulers in Kwara State have described the election of Bukola Saraki as president of the Senate as "unprecedented in the political history of Kwara".

The traditional rulers made the assertion in separate interviews at their palaces in Omu-Aran, Iloffa and Egosi in Kwara on Tuesday.

The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Charles Ibitoye, said the election of Mr. Saraki was a unique turning point in the political history of the state.

He said, "Having the number three position in the country occupied by an illustrious son of Kwara and no other person than Sen. Bukola Saraki is a thing of joy to us in Kwara. It is a legacy laid down by the late strong man of Kwara politics and former Senate Leader, the late Dr Olusola Saraki, the father of the current senate president.

"This legacy was concretely built upon for years by the newly elected Senate President and APC leader in the state. I wish to thank Nigerians, especially the contributors who made it possible and urge them to keep the flag flying in the interest of the country."

Also, Samuel Dada, the Alofa of Iloffa in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara, attributed Saraki's emergence as senate president to his exemplary political leadership style within the state and beyond.

Mr. Dada said, "Saraki has the love and affection of the country, his party, people and supporters at heart, so his emergence as the 8th senate president is a welcome development."

Also, Daniel Dada, the Elegosi of Egosi kingdom, said, "Saraki has the capacity and capability to ensure the desired change and transformation envisioned for the country."

He described Mr. Saraki's election as president of the 8th senate as a result of hard work, diligence and total commitment to emancipate the state and the country from the shackles of underdevelopment.

Mr. Dada urged other senators, especially the principal officials, to close ranks in order to ensure a unified and transformed country.

"This is unique in the history of the state, it is an unprecedented political development that calls for celebration," he said.
