Kwara Govt. urged to establish fire service station in Omu-Aran |

Date: 2015-06-13

Kwara Government has been reminded of its promise to establish a fire service station in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of the State.

The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Charles Ibitoye, made the reminder during interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Omu-Aran on Thursday.

Ibitoye said the location of a fire service station in the community would assist to reduce huge loss of property in case of fire outbreak.

NAN recalls that the state government recently approved N75 million for the construction of a fire service station each in Omu-Aran and Bode-Saadu.

The stations, according to the government, are expected to serve communities in Kwara South and Kwara North respectively.

NAN recalls that three major fire outbreaks destroyed property worth N50 million in the communities between 2013 and 2015.

The monarch, who condoled with the people of Offa on the recent fire at Owode Market, said the establishment of fire service station in Omu-Aran was long overdue.

"The incessant fire incidents in the country, especially within Omu-Aran community in recent time, are a source of concern to us as leaders.

We are particularly concerned by the huge losses being incurred during fire-outbreaks due to the town's long distance from the two fire stations in Offa and Ilorin.

This actually accounted for the call on the state government to expedite action on the proposed allocation of a fire service station in the community", Ibitoye said.

Alhaji Luqman Owolewa, the Chairman, Omu-Aran Development Association, and Chief Peter Oyinloye, the President of the association, commended the state government for considering the community in its developmental plans.

They said they remained indebted to the administration of Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed and the Senate President Bukola Saraki, for being sensitive to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the community. (NAN)
