Buhari Can't Rule Nigeria Alone - Cleric

Date: 2015-07-06

Nigerians have been admonished not to put their hopes on President Muhammadu Buhari's administration but on the God Almighty for divine intervention.

The Chief Imam of Offa, Kwara State, Sheik Muideen Salmon gave the admonition in Osogbo while delivering the third annual Ramadan Lecture, organized by the Osun State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He chided Nigerians for expecting perfection from their leaders, stressing that President Muhammadu Buhari is not capable of ruling Nigeria without the support of God.

According to him, most of the leaders failed because they believed in their capability to rule people, forgetting that only God can guarantee success. He maintained that good governance entail recognition of human personality and good living, value of knowledge, value of human health, provision of job and good health care.

Salmon also chided many Nigerians that cursed the leaders, stressing that many fathers have failed in the governance of their home and their children are not cursing them.

"If you are unable to feed your children or pay their school fee, is it that you are unfortunate or fate prevented you", he asked.

He said, "rather than praying for your leaders, most of you only cursed them, a development that contribute to their woeful performance. "You might have forgotten that the more you cursed them, the more it becomes worse for them, and your living is directly or indirectly affected.

"We must all know that Buhari is not capable of ruling Nigeria because he cannot control his own life without the knowledge of Allah. It thereby behoves on us to continue praying for our leaders so that they can succeed and we can also benefit from their success.

However, the cleric lauded the Governor of Osun state, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, for ensuring security of lives and people of the state, asserting that 'Osun is the most peaceful state I've ever seen in Nigeria.'

He also advised politicians to desist from dumping youths after using them for campaign, saying "those boys should first be engaged in handiwork so that they won't become wild animal because most of them are those that turned kidnappers and armed robbers at the end."
