Student, 13 Drowns In Aluko River
The lifeless body of the teenager was found in the narrow river by residents of the area.
The deceased, identified as Gafar Solihu, was JSS one student of Oke-Aluko Junior Secondary School, Ilorin.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the teenager, alongside his friends had gone to the stream last Saturday for fishing, but was declared missing when his whereabouts remained unknown around 7.00pm.
It was learnt that Gafar got drowned when he approached deeper side of the stream .
It was further learnt that those who accompanied him on the fishing mission took to their heels when the teenager started sinking inside the stream.
The deceased’s wears and shoes were seen at the bank of the stream where he left them before embarking on the deadly mission.
A resident who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that she saw the teenager around 3.00pm on the fateful day before the tragic incidence.
A staff of Kwara State University, Malete, Mr Mumin Ahmed, who claimed to be the deceased uncle, described the incident as shocking and unfortunate.
According to him Gafar was last seen on Saturday afternoon at home and disappeared mysteriously until his corpse was sighted on the stream floating.
“This incident is very strange to us. The last time we saw him (Gafar) at home was on Saturday afternoon. It was around 7.00pm when we wanted to break fast that we noticed he was not around. We searched everywhere and we could not find him. It was after endless search that we declared him missing.
“Somebody drew our attention that his corpse was seen floating on the stream, that is why we are here to evacuate him. It is very saddening.”
The spokesman of the State Police Command,Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the incident.
