Ilorin LG offers N1.29m for 41 Law students

Date: 2012-01-19

About 41 indigent students of Nigeria Law School and two students pursuing their Masters Degree in Law,  will benefit from a grant of N1.29 million presented to them by the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Presenting the cash donation of N30,000 each to the beneficiaries at the council secretariat, the chairperson, Hajia Tawakalitu Abdulkadir, said the gesture was borne out of the local government's desire to complement the state government's efforts in making legal education affordable to the common man.

The council boss, who said education formed an integral part of national development because manpower development was key to national growth, added that legal education was quintessential to peace, security, corporate co-existence and general development of any nation.

She also said that it was on the understanding and the nature of legal education that informed the council's decision of advancing bursary award to the students.

She said the implicit and explicit high cost of law programme in the country called for the  government and philanthropists to come to the aid of law students.

The council chairperson said that the token given to the students would go a long way to cushion the effect of hardship of the costly school fees.

While urging the beneficiaries to face their studies well and steer clear of acts that might distract them, she also enjoined them to be good ambassadors of the area in their various schools.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Akeem Agana, thanked the council for the gesture, adding that it would no doubt assist them as they proceed to the Law School for the programme.
