IDP Camps newborn: Toyin Saraki takes case to UN General Assembly

Concerned by the plight of pregnant women, the newborn babies and the risk faced in the internally Displaced Camps across the country, Wife of the President of the Senate, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, has called for increased philanthropic efforts to salvage the situation.

Saraki while addressing the African Philanthropy Forum, (APF) during the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly in the United State of America, USA over the weekend said her utmost efforts is to deliver transformative change for African mothers, newborn and children.

She noted that maternal health challenges facing migrants, refugees and Internally displaced persons has attained a worrisome stage, "the IDP camps does not have access to portable drinking water, midwifery and other health care services.

"It is very obvious that children born in this atmosphere may be susceptible to anaemia, jaundice and malnourishment.

"There's no doubt about it that children born under this condition may grow up to be leaders of tomorrow. This is why all hands must be on deck to address these anomaly,"

She continued that; "Increased philanthropic efforts should be targeted towards humanitarian and maternal health crisis facing migrants, refugees and internally displaced persons." She urged.

Mrs. Saraki assured that African philanthropic measures if encouraged will deliver broad based growth and inclusive development when the principles of empowerment and midwife education are made priorities.

The Founder of Wellbeing Foundation Africa, said that the African Philanthropy Forum (APF), is an international network, which serves to foster equitable growth and inclusive development in the African continent urging philanthropists across Africa to move into action by collaborating with governments and other partners in ensuring absolute health care delivery to the less privileged in the society.
