Fulani lament kidnappings by fellow herdsmen
Fulani settlers who live in their camps in Kwara State have raised the alarm over incessant kidnapping of their own, calling on government and law enforcement agencies to save them.
The Fulani residents particularly in Ekiti, Oke Ero, Irepodun and Isin local government areas of the state made the appeal in Ilorin yesterday, while narrating their ordeals to newsmen.
Their spokesman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, said about six of their members had so far been kidnapped at Oko, Omu Aran, Osi, Obbo Aiyegunle, Obbo-Ile, Ekan Meje and Otun in Ekiti State.
He disclosed that victims have been forced to pay ransoms ranging from N300,000 to over a N1 million before they could secure their release after some days in captivity.
Not only that, Ibrahim added that the kidnappers also double as rustlers, stealing their cattle and forcefully collecting proceeds they made on selling their cattle at the end of each cattle market day.
He disclosed that "a timber operator kidnapped around Obo Ayegunle was tied to the tree and N2 million ransom was demanded by the kidnappers, but the victim was lucky to have been saved from the kidnappers who were sighted and took to their heels."
The spokesman lamented that the kidnappers were Fulani of Bororo extraction with few Yoruba recruited as their operatives.
The Fulani spokesman further disclosed that one Ibrahim Dasuki (aka Dowuro), a notorious Fulani and the kingpin of the kidnapping gang, used to brazenly call prospective victims ahead of their operations, demanding for money to escape being kidnapped.
