The Director, Primary Healthcare and Disease Control in Kwara State, Dr. Abimbola Folorunso, ?said a total of 767, 200 children will be immunised against measles.

He therefore called on parents and guardians to make available their children and wards between the ages of nine months and five years for the exercise. Folorunsho disclosed this at a sensitisation programme on the exercise scheduled to hold between November 21 and 25.

"The exercise will cover 767, 200 children in 193 wards of all the 16 local government areas of the state and the vaccination would be done at fixed/temporary posts in all the wards.

"One dose of the vaccine is about 85 per cent effective at preventing measles and two doses are about 97 per cent effective", she said.

She maintained that the vaccination is safe, free and highly efficacious for measles prevention, while warning that measles could reduce a child's ability to fight other diseases.
