KWHA Seeks Implementation Of Child Rights Law

Date: 2015-11-15

The Kwara House of Assembly has urged the state government to urgently implement the Child Rights Law, enacted by the Seventh legislature.

The assembly made the call in its resolution after adopting a motion on loitering of young persons around recording studios in some parts of the state.

The motion was moved by AbdulRahman AbdulRafiu (APC, llorin-north Constituency) and seconded by Aishat Abodunrin (APC, llorin-east Constituency).

The deputy speaker, Mathew Okedare who presided over the plenary while reading the resolution of the assembly noted the need for urgent implementation of the Child Rights Law in Kwara.

This, the members noted would give the children a sense of belonging and eliminate anti-social behaviours among them.

The assembly directed the state ministries of Social Welfare, Youths and Sports and Environment to constitute a joint task force to monitor the activities of recording studios in the state.

The legislature also directed the affected ministries to produce jingles in electronic media on the danger of young children loitering around recording studios in all parts of the state.

The assembly advised parents and guardians in the state to closely monitor the activities of their children and wards and caution them against standing on road sides to watch films at recording studios.
