Kwara governor says N20bn bond won't become a burden in future

Date: 2015-11-18

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed says the proposed twenty billion naira bond from the capital market will not impose any financial burden on the state.

Governor Ahmed stated this on Tuesday at the swearing-in of nine additional commissioners at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Ilorin.

The Governor, who stated that the bond was imperative following the reduction in the Federal Revenue Allocation, explained that the bond would revive suspended infrastructural projects and commence new ones in the state.

Governor Ahmed noted that the Federal Revenue Allocation could not sustain the state beyond the payment of salaries and assured that the bond would not hamper the state's capacity to meet its obligations to the people.

The Governor however, charged the commissioners to make prudence and accountability, their watchwords in the interest of the people.

Governor Ahmed had on Tuesday, sworn in nine additional Commissioners with a call on them to serve the state diligently.

Performing the ceremony, Governor Ahmed said their appointments were based on their commitment and dedication in the past, urging them to bring those qualities to bear in the actualization of the aspirations for the state.

Governor Ahmed said the government had carefully been executing its policy thrust, which hinges on human capital development, economic diversification and infrastructural development.

The Governor emphasized that his administration had strived hard to remain on course in spite of the obvious challenges.

Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold described the new Commissioners as those, who understand the policy thrust of the present administration.

Responding on behalf of the new Commissioners, the new Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Asiat Ayinke Saka thanked the Governor for finding them worthy.
