The people of Omupo Community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, under the aegis of the Omupo Descendant Union (ODU), have lauded Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for swinging the pendulum of the recent appointment of commissioners in the direction of their son, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Alhaji Wasiu Adeniyi Odewale.

The Chairman of the Union, Prince Rasaq Iyanda stated this when a team of the union paid a courtesy visit to the commissioner in his office on Friday.

Prince Iyanda thanked Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for the appointment and described the commissioner as a son of the soil and one who had shown so much interest in the development of the community for a very long time, even as he said the team also brought greetings from the Olomu of Omupo, Oba Mahmud Yakub Adebayo Buari II, who prayed for the commissioner and advised him to continue his good deeds.

Prince Iyanda also said that the commissioner was a role model to Omupo youths and the entire people of the community. In his word "Alhaji Odewale is a bridge between the old and the young people of Omupo. We are so happy to have him as a commissioner and even the first commissioner from the community".

He said Omupo community solicited for the intervention of the government in the developmental projects of the communities, both the ones that were nearing completion and the ones yet to be embarked on.

In his response, the Commissioner thanked the team and promised to be a good ambassador of the community in the cabinet of Governor Ahmed even as he briefed them on the efforts of the administration in the areas of youth empowerment, infrastructural development, agricultural development, human capital development, tourism and solid mineral development.

Alhaji Odewale said the government was planning a programme that would foster grassroots development through Kwara State Community and Social Development Project under KWCDA, a World Bank assisted project.

He said the government would be looking forward to having grassroots Community Development Association formed in all the 193 wards across the state. The CDAs are expected to submit proposal on community development projects tailored towards sectors such as, energy, rural roads, schools, health, water among others.

He restated the governor's commitment to improve the standard of living at the grassroots through various projects that would be initiated in order to empower the people economically, saying the government is responsive to the needs of its people.
