Functional System Would Help Avert Disasters, Says Gov Ahmed
Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has disclosed that if Nigeria had a functional system that ensured that infrastructure facilities of different forms worked at optimal capacities, some of the disasters, such as road accidents, collapsed buildings and air crash would have been averted.
Governor Ahmed also urged Nigerians to cultivate and sustain the culture of excellence, patriotism and probity in the discharge of their duties for the transformation of the country.
Spokesperson for the governor, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba in a Statement said: "Ahmed made the call after signing the condolence register for victims of Dana air crash at the Nigeria House, Manhattan, New York, United States of America."
The statement stated that "Alhaji Ahmed, who is in the United States to launch the state's agriculture master-plan, noted that such an approach has the capacity to avert avoidable disasters of different forms that the country has experienced in recent times.
"He advised aviation industry stakeholders to ensure that Nigeria's air space is safer as air travel needs not be a death sentence that the country airspace is being turned to."
Governor Ahmed therefore commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his promise to bring culprits in the recent air mishap to justice, affirming that this is "necessary to quickly restore confidence in the aviation sector." He prayed God to grant families and friends of the victims the fortitude to bear the great and sudden loss.
