FRSC Partners RTEAN on Ember month's campaign

The Kwara State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC),Ilorin has attributed Wednesday accident in Koko town, Ifelodun local government to wrong over taking, as it partnered the Road Transport Employers' Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) on Ember months campaign .

The Kwara State Chairman of the RTEAN, Alhaji Salman Ayoku in his welcome address at the Ember month's sensitization programme organised by FRSC at Maraba Motor Parks, Ilorin yesterday also described the accident that claimed 12 lives in Koko as sad and unfortunate.

The Administrative Secretary of the state RTEAN, Alhaja Abdulrahman Olayinka Onikijipa who represented the RTEAN chairman at the event promised that the association would continue to organise programmes for the purpose of reducing road accidents.

Alhaji Salman Ayoku however called for change in the attitudes of the drivers and that drivers must adhere to all traffic rules and regulations to prevent accident on the roads.

He said the theme for this year's Ember months programme is Road Sanity: ' Drive Safely'."To have a safe society, we need change. Change is here and therefore we must observe all road rules and regulations as we drive safely".

The RTEAN boss thanked the state government on the zero tolerance to port-holes and appealed to the government as a matter of urgency to rehabilitate Ilorin/Jebba/Mokua, Ogbomoso/ Oyo highway among others for the benefit of all.

Ayoku also commended the FRSC for partnering RTEAN on Ember months programme and for their cooperation and understanding. In his remark, the state commander for the FRSC, Mr Sunday Maku warned drivers against wrong over taking, over speeding, seat belt violation, making calls while driving and vehicle number plate violation.

The Deputy Corps Commander, Joshua Oluwafemi Adekanye who represented the Commander at the event told drivers not to take alcohol or any other intoxicant before driving and while driving. Maku promised that the Corps would continue to operate within limited resources available to it to reduce accidents to the barest minimum.

The FRSC commander also warned drivers not to keep petroleum products in their vehicles." Keeping petroleum products in your vehicle can lead to fire accidents".
