Kwara saves N700m through Single Account System
Kwara State government has saved over N700 million through the operation of Single Treasury Account System for the state, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has said.
Speaking on Wednesday while fielding questions from newsmen at Ilorin International Airport, Ahmed said the amount was saved by blocking leakages in the system and achieving reduction in the state's overhead costs.
He therefore, gave assurance that the 2016 budget would be people-oriented, taking cognisance of the prevailing economic challenges in the country as well as the perennial slide in earnings from the federation allocation to the state. He added that Environmental and Traffic Offences laws would soon be enacted in the state to promote environmental cleanliness and ensure sanity on Kwara State roads.
"We must be proactive to cope with challenges of environmental sanitation and traffic offences, as Kwara is gradually evolving into a commercial hub with increasing population," he said.
The governor added that existing law on traffic and environmental offences will be upgraded to cope with increasing human and vehicular population, saying that the laws would therefore focus more on ensuring compliance.
