NURTW urges FG to address fuel crisis
The National Union of Road Transport Workers yesterday pleaded with the Federal Government to put an end to the lingering fuel crisis nationwide.
It said the effect of the crisis had negatively impacted on the economy of the nation.
Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin after the fidau for the wife of General Secretary, National Union of Garment and Textile Workers, Hajia Hamdalat Aremu, NURTW president, Alhaji Najeem Usman Yasin, urged the government to address the issue in quest time.
He said Nigerians could no longer bear the burden of endless queues at few petrol stations that dispensed fuel to the public.
For the past four months running, fuel scarcity had continued to take its toll on the masses as several stations remained under lock and key. The NURTW president asked the federal government to take urgent action in order to nip the fuel crisis in the bud.
Speaking on the ember months, Yasin admonished motorists to be safety conscious and obey all traffic regulations while driving, while calling on commercial drivers to avoid overloading.
"Now, we are almost getting to the end of the year, we call on all the road users and our members to be conscious while on the highways and they should make sure that they obey the traffic signs, they should not over speed, they should not carry overload and they should be very careful in their movement because this is a rush period where passengers will be moving left and right.
"I will appeal to all the motorists not to use this period to increase transport fares. They should make sure they go safely and arrive safely", the NURTW boss pleaded.
