Kwara sets up committee over communal clash
The Kwara State Government has set up a fact finding committee on the remote and immediate causes of the recent communal clash between Share and Tsaragi communities in the state.
The committee, headed by the state Deputy Governor, Elder Peter Kisra, comprises members of the state executive and security councils. It has since visited the communities with a view to finding a lasting solution to the crisis.
The Senior Special Assistant on Communications to the Governor, Dr. Muideen Akorede, who disclosed this during a post State Executive Council meeting, said the SEC expressed concern over the unnecessary and sad clash between the two communities that had led to loss of lives and properties.
The Governor's aide said the committee would assess the extent of damage and recommend necessary measures to stem the communal clash to the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Akorede, who added that the government has zero tolerance to communal clash, advised residents of the state to always live in peace and harmony in order to ensure growth and development while creating enabling environment for businesses and investments.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Alhaji Mahmud Ajeigbe, said the Council approved the establishment of a Directorate of Orientation under the Ministry of Information and Communications for re-orientation against societal ills.
Ajeigbe said the Council took the decision in order to address issues of immorality, indecent dressing and other daily contraventions. Ajeigbe explained that the Directorate would partner the National Orientation Agency and other relevant agencies in sensitising the populace against societal ills.
