Kwara State to end inadequate water supply
The kwara state government has assured the people of the state that the problem of inadequate supply of water will be over within the next two months.
The state commissioner for water resources, Barrister Abdulrazaq Akorede gave the assurance while speaking with VON correspondent in Ilorin the kwara state capital north central Nigeria.
Barrister Akorede said the state government is committed to its water supply policy of accessibility within five hundred meters through water generation, reticulation, distribution and management of surface water.
He said the government has invested over five billion Naira excluding the five hundred million Naira recently released on water development, adding that the contractor handling the project had been directed to go back to site.
Electricity Supply
Barrister Akorede appealed to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution company to increase electricity supply given to the state water corporation to enable the state achieve the set target, saying that the Asa-Dam has water capacity of over two hundred and fifty million gallons per day given a stable supply.
He stressed that plan was under way to commission two booster stations and the centralized Oke-Oyi, Adewale and Ogidi water reservoirs for effective water supply.
The commissioner, however, gave assurance that the welfare packages of the Staff of the state water corporation will be given much attention.
Waterborne Diseases
In a related interview with VON, a cross section of residents of Ilorin community advised the government to quickly do the needful by supplying adequate water adding that the old water pipes should be urgently replaced to avoid water borne diseases in the state.
They also appealed to the government to ensure that the contractor handling the water reticulation project who has been paid several billions of Naira be mandated to return to site without further delay and before the rainfall again sets in.
