In line with Kwara State government principle of "every child counts," the Ministry of Education and Capital Human Development has launched 'Kwara School Digest Magazine' for school children in the state.

Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, wife of the state governor, said at the launch of the magazine in Ilorin that there was the need to revive the reading culture among the youth in the state.

She said that her pet project, "Life Empowered Anchors Hope'' (LEAH), a charity foundation, had collaborated with the Ministry of Education to establish a "spelling bee competition'' for schools to improve reading among pupils and students.

In his address, Malam Raji Mohammed, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, said that the government was giving education and youth empowerment the desired attention.

He said the government renamed the Ministry of Education as Ministry of Education and Human Development to engage students in entrepreneurial and vocational knowledge.

Mohammed lauded the government for improving the quality and making education affordable in the state.

He said the government had introduced free tuition in primary and post primary schools in the state, while the fees payable at Kwara State University were slashed.
